Als Gastwirt Vollmer am 9. 4. 1698 erwachte, dachte er,  dass es ein normaler Tag werden würde. Die Leute würden kommen und gehen, der Markt würde abgehalten werden, Blauer Billy würde wieder unterm Tisch liegen und so weiter. Doch es sollte alles andere als ein normaler Tag auf der kleinen Insel Carlescoma werden und die Überlebenden sollten noch Jahrzehnte später über den riesigen Kampf und die Verwüstung der Insel berichten. Es war kurz vor 14 Uhr, als die Darkness, halb zerstört und unter weißer Fahne, in den Hafen einlief. Die Darkness hier war ein umgebautes Handelsschiff unter dem Kommando eines Kapitäns, der in dieser Gegend Black Eagle genannt wurde. Natürlich wussten die Bewohner der Insel Carlescoma, dass es sich bei der Mannschaft der Darkness um Piraten handelte, doch da die Piraten sie ja nicht Angriffen wurden sie vorerst hier geduldet. Schon einige Stunden nachdem die Darkness in den Hafen eingelaufen war, erschienen zwei weitere Piratenschiffe vor der Insel und beide waren noch stärker beschädigt als die Darkness. Auf der Poseidon stand von ehemals 3 Masten nur noch einer und die Dark Blizzard kam gar in zwei Teilen an! In den Kneipen und Bars des Hafenviertels bekam man nun die eine oder andere Erklärung für die drei halb zerstörten Piratenschiffe jetzt aufgetischt. Von sich wieder vom Meeres-grund erhobenen Geisterschiffen war nun da die Rede, aber auch von einem riesigen Sturm, der von einem Magier heraufbeschworen worden war und nur Piratenschiffe zertrümmerte. In Wirklichkeit war es einige Tage vorher zu einem großen Kampf zwischen Black Eagle der nicht nur die Darkness befehligte und Big Bat gekommen. Big Bats kleine Flotte war von Black Eagle in einen Hinterhalt gelockt worden. Die Darkness war als Köder vor Big Bats Schiffen durch den Blue River gefahren. Als die Darkness, mit Big Bats Flotte hinter ihr, in einem See ankam, aus dem man ja bloß durch den Blue River fliehen konnte, schnitt Black Eagles Flotte Big Bats Schiffen diesen Flucht-weg ab. Doch schon kurz nachdem Big Bat die feindlichen Schiffe bemerkt hatte, ging er zum Angriff über. Die Darkness konnte sich als erstes Schiff in eine gute Ausgangsposition bringen, auch wenn sie vom Rest der Flotte abgeschnitten war. Bevor überhaupt alle Mannschaftsmitglieder auf Big Bats Schiffen merkten, dass sie in einen Hinterhalt geraten waren, schoss die Darkness schon auf die Exekutor. Obwohl die Exekutor, nachdem sie einige Schüsse abbekommen hat, heftig das Feuer erwiderte, bekam sie schnell Schlagseite. Durch immer mehr Lecks trat Wasser ein und jeder, der nicht die Kanonen bediente, half, das Wasser aus der Exekutor herauszuschöpfen. Bevor die Exekutor versenkt werden konnte, traf jedoch Big Bats Flaggschiff, die Hell, ein. Alle anderen Schiffe fuhren nun wieder in Richtung des Blue Rivers um Black Eagles Flotte zu bekämpfen und dieser verlor jede Hoffnung, dass die Darkness diesen Kampf überstehen könnte. Aber der Kapitän der Darkness war ein erfahrener Seemann und hatte noch einige Asse im Ärmel. Big Bat wollte die Darkness eigentlich längsseits rammen, ihr dabei keine Angriffsfläche bieten. Die Darkness jedoch fuhr eine Kurve um sich zwischen die Hell und die Exekutor zu bringen. Da Big Bat die Exekutor nicht verlieren wollte, musste er wohl oder übel mit der Hell abdrehen und diese zwischen die Darkness und die Exekutor bewegen. Während dieses Manövers war aber immer noch ein Teil der Exekutor erreichbar. Eine wohl platzierte Kugel der Darkness genügte und schon war der Rumpf der Exekutor so stark zerborsten, dass sie langsam aber sicher unterging. Big Bat traute seinen Augen kaum, als die Darkness dann auch noch alle Segel setzte und direkt links von ihm vorbeifuhr. Bevor die Hell überhaupt erst einen Schuss abfeuerte, war die Darkness längst an ihr vorbei. Sofort gab Big Bat den Befehl zu wenden, aber die Darkness war nun vorerst in Sicherheit. In der Mündung des Blue Rivers sah es jedoch nicht so gut für Black Eagle aus. Viele seiner Schiffe waren zertrümmert worden und er kämpfte nun nur noch mit der Poseidon, der Black Course und seinem Flaggschiff, der Dark Blizzard. Eben griff die Solidier die Poseidon an. Da der Poseidon bereits ein Mast weggeschmettert worden war, war sie ein weniger bewegliches leichtes Ziel. Als ihr die Black Course zu Hilfe eilen wollte, schlug die Dark Evil auf einmal einen vollkommen anderen Kurs ein und drehte sich um fast 180°. Während dieser Wendung schoss sie erst einige Kugeln auf die Dark Blizzard ab und fuhr dann der Black Course direkt in den Weg. Diese drehte bei und fuhr somit auch in den Schussbereich der Dark Evil. Bevor die Dark Evil jedoch einen Schuss auf die Black Course abfeuern konnte, wurde sie selbst von einer Kugel getroffen. Erstaunt wandten sich die Gesichter aller Mannschaftsmitglieder der Dark Evil auf die Stelle von der der Schuss gekommen war und sahen die inzwischen eingetroffene Darkness. Im Kreuzfeuer der Black Course und der Darkness ging die Dark Evil schnell unter, doch inzwischen hatte die Solidier der Poseidon weiteren Schaden zugefügt: eine Kanonenkugel hatte den zweiten Mast der Poseidon durchschlagen. Diese, mit nur einem Mast fast nicht mehr beweglich, stand kurz vor dem Untergang. Die Black Course, eines der schnellsten Piratenschiffe überhaupt, schaffte es, sich rechtzeitig zwischen die Solidier und die Poseidon zu schieben. Nun wurde sie aber gleich von drei Schiffen angegriffen. Als die Darkness und die Dark Blizzard zur Rettung von der Poseidon und der Black Course eintrafen, existierte die Black Course bereits nicht mehr. Black Eagles Plan war es hier nun, wenigstens noch die Poseidon, die Darkness und die Dark Blizzard zu retten. Also kämpfte die Dark Blizzard zusammen mit der Darkness, um der Poseidon den Rückweg zu decken. Die Solidier, inzwischen auch schon mehr ein Wrack als ein Schiff, konnte noch einen Schuss nun auf die Dark Blizzard loslassen, bevor sie nun versank. Dieser Schuss bestand aus zwei aneinander geketteten Kugeln. Sie schlugen im Hauptmast der Dark Blizzard ein und dieser wurde somit seitlich gefällt. Der Mast schlug auf dem Deck der Dark Blizzard ein und teilte sie sauber in zwei Hälften, die nur durch ein paar Bretter noch zusammengehalten wurden. Die Darkness konnte noch eines von Big Bats Schiffen nun versenken, bevor die letzten paar sich zur Seemitte zurückzogen, um mit Big Bat zu berat-schlagen, was zu tun sei. Um ungefähr 17 Uhr waren alle Schiffe von Black Eagle im Hafen der Insel Carlescoma eingetroffen. Sie versahen sich sofort mit Vorräten, ließen die wichtigsten Reparaturen durchführen und warben auch einige neue Mannschaftsmitglieder an. Um 19 Uhr war es dann soweit, Big Bats Flotte traf in Carlescoma ein. Sowohl Big Bat als auch Black Eagle hatten bei anderen, befreundeten Piraten um Unterstützung gebeten und nun entbrannte eine riesige Schlacht. Man sagt, dass fast die Hälfte aller Wracks auf der Welt nun vor der Insel Carles-coma auf dem Meeresboden liegt.

When the innkeeper Vollmer woke up on April 9, 1698, he thought it would be a normal day. People would come and go, the market would be held, Blue Billy would be under the table again, and so on. But it was to be anything but a normal day on the small island of Carlescoma and the survivors would still tell decades later about the huge struggle and the devastation of the island. It was shortly before 2 p.m. when the Darkness, half destroyed and under a white flag, entered the harbor. The Darkness here was a converted merchant ship under the command of a captain locally known as the Black Eagle. Of course, the inhabitants of the island of Carlescoma knew that the Darkness crew were pirates, but since the pirates did not attack them, they were tolerated here for the time being. Just a few hours after the Darkness had entered the port, two more pirate ships appeared in front of the island and both were even more damaged than the Darkness. On the Poseidon only one of the former 3 masts was standing and the Dark Blizzard even arrived in two parts! In the pubs and bars of the harbor district one got one or the other explanation for the three half-destroyed pirate ships now being served up. There was talk of ghost ships that had risen again from the seabed, but also of a huge storm that had been conjured up by a magician and only smashed pirate ships. In reality there had been a big fight a few days before between Black Eagle, who not only commanded the Darkness, and Big Bat. Big Bat's small fleet had been ambushed by Black Eagle. The Darkness had sailed the Blue River as bait in front of Big Bats' ships. When the Darkness, with Big Bat's fleet behind it, arrived in a lake from which one could only escape through the Blue River, Black Eagle's fleet cut off this escape route. But shortly after Big Bat noticed the enemy ships, he started the attack. The Darkness was the first ship to get itself into a good starting position, even if it was cut off from the rest of the fleet. Before all crew members on Big Bats ships even realized that they had been ambushed, the Darkness shot at the Executor. Although the Executor violently returned fire after receiving a few shots, it was quickly listed. Water came in through more and more leaks, and anyone who did not operate the cannons helped to scoop the water out of the executor. Before the Executor could be sunk, however, Big Bat's flagship, the Hell, arrived. All other ships were now heading back towards the Blue River to fight Black Eagle's fleet and the latter lost all hope that the Darkness could survive this fight. But the Captain of the Darkness was an experienced sailor and still had a few aces up his sleeve. Big Bat actually wanted to ram the Darkness alongside, without offering it any attack surface. The Darkness, however, drove a curve to bring itself between the Hell and the Executor. Since Big Bat didn't want to lose the executor, he had to turn away with Hell and move it between the Darkness and the Executor. During this maneuver, however, some of the executors could still be reached. A well-placed ball of darkness was enough and the executor's torso was so badly shattered that it slowly but surely went under. Big Bat could hardly believe his eyes when the Darkness set all sails and passed directly to his left. Before the Hell even fired a shot, the Darkness was long past it. Big Bat immediately gave the order to turn, but the Darkness was now safe for the time being. Things didn't look so good for Black Eagle at the mouth of the Blue River, however. Many of his ships had been smashed and he only fought with the Poseidon, the Black Course and his flagship, the Dark Blizzard. The Solidier was just attacking the Poseidon. Since the Poseidon had already been thrown a mast, it was a less agile, easy target. When the Black Course wanted to rush to her aid, the Dark Evil suddenly took a completely different course and turned almost 180 °. During this turn, she first shot a few bullets at the Dark Blizzard and then drove the Black Course right in the way. This turned and thus drove into the shooting range of the Dark Evil. Before the Dark Evil could fire a shot at the Black Course, however, it was hit by a bullet itself. Amazed, the faces of all crew members of the Dark Evil turned to the spot from which the shot had come and saw the darkness that had meanwhile arrived. The Dark Evil quickly drowned in the crossfire of the Black Course and Darkness, but in the meantime the Solidier had inflicted further damage on the Poseidon: a cannonball had penetrated the second mast of the Poseidon. This, with only one mast almost no longer movable, was on the verge of sinking. The Black Course, one of the fastest pirate ships ever, managed to get between the Solidier and the Poseidon in time. But now she was attacked by three ships. When the Darkness and Dark Blizzard arrived to save the Poseidon and Black Course, the Black Course no longer existed. Black Eagle's plan was to save at least the Poseidon, the Darkness and the Dark Blizzard. So the Dark Blizzard fought together with the Darkness to cover the Poseidon's way back. The Solidier, now more of a wreck than a ship, was able to let go of one more shot at the Dark Blizzard before it sank. This shot consisted of two bullets chained together. They hit the main mast of the Dark Blizzard and this was felled from the side. The mast hit the deck of the Dark Blizzard and neatly cut it in half, only held together by a few boards. The Darkness could sink one of Big Bat's ships now before the last few retreated to the middle of the lake to consult with Big Bat what to do. By about 5 p.m., all Black Eagle ships had arrived in the port of Carlescoma Island. They immediately stocked up on supplies, had the most important repairs carried out and also recruited a few new crew members. At 7 p.m. it was time for Big Bat's fleet to arrive in Carlescoma. Both Big Bat and Black Eagle had asked other pirate friends for support and now a huge battle broke out. It is said that almost half of all wrecks in the world are now on the seabed off the island of Carlescoma.
